Redmond To Spearfish To Oshkosh 1403nm

30th July 1998, departed Redmond in company with factory aircraft for Spearfish (KSPF) which is close to Mount Rushmore. We got some good air to air photos and after landing for lunch, flew around Mount Rushmore before setting course for Oshkosh. A comprehensive notam pack on entry procedures is mandatory reading. To say the air was thick with aircraft is an understatement. Virtually no radio calls from us, typical communication was “blue Lancair, rock your wings”.' You are number 7, expect to land short and take taxiway...”

After landing and tie down, we assisted with assembling the Lancair Tent. 15,000 aircraft were expected and the weather was warm (30 C) and fine at the beginning of the week. VH-LKG was on display for the whole show. Not many knew where VH registration originated. I was introduced to Bob Hoover which was a highlight for me. Alex gave many Television Interviews and the week passed quickly! For those enthusiasts that have not been to Oshkosh, we can thoroughly recommend the experience! We won the award for the aircraft that traveled furthest to the show.

 

3rd August 1998 Oshkosh

Today is the second last day of the show so we installed the bladder tank & HF aerial for a midday departure for Bangor Maine, hopefully via Niagara Falls and Toronto. The weather is not looking good with TS predicted to FL350.
